Let’s get into it! So today we are learning how to become the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31: 10 . First, I wanna take a look at what makes it so difficult to be a virtuous woman; is it our environment, lack of knowledge, fleshly desires or just life’s circumstances? ( Gal 5:19-21 ) The short answer is all of the above, so let’s dive into some of those issues. We know as princesses of the King, He calls us to show good morals by being modest, having good character, behavior, and following our purpose. Those characteristics make us virtuous women in the eyes of God and others.
What makes it difficult to be a virtuous woman?
As women of God, we face several obstacles on this journey despite the examples set by our foremothers. It can still be challenging for several reasons such as outgrowing old friends, struggling to break bad habits, or even lacking a living example to follow. However, we should not allow these challenges to hinder our walk with God. It wasn’t until I became serious about my relationship with God that I realized the little struggles that we as women face; such as, the temptation to gossip and talk about others, spending countless hours on social media scrolling, and being unproductive going out most weekends. Not to mention, the unhealed generational trauma in our community that takes away positive examples to model after. It’s those little things that we have become accustomed to doing that are hindering our walks with God and our relationships with others.
Steps to Becoming more virtuous
Knowing what not to do is the easy part however learning and practicing what to do is another thing. No worries I got you covered. There are just a few simple steps you can follow, and you’ll be well on your way! It’s not as difficult as it may sound. here are some pointers and steps to get you started.
- Morals and integrity are all about having the right mindset and doing what is right and honorable. For example, when someone asks for advice or a question, it’s important to be honest with them and not just tell them what you think they want to hear ( Prov 12:22 ). Be the friend that changes the conversation when it turns to gossip, show empathy and ask how we can help or support them. That’s having morals and integrity. ( Ephesians 4:29 ) ( Phil 4: 7-8 )
- The concept of modesty is often mistakenly equated with dressing like a grandma, but it goes beyond just clothing. ( 1 Tim 2:9-10 ) Modesty is also about how you present yourself internally; your presence in a room. You don’t want to be the center of attention by seeking it, rather, let your pleasant conversation and softness be what stands out. ( Phil 1:27 ) (1 Pet 3: 3-4 )Dressing modestly can still be fun and expressive while also honoring your temple. Avoid tight or revealing clothing, and as a general rule, if an outfit makes you feel sexy, it’s probably not modest. ( 1 Cor 6: 19-20 ) By adhering to these principles, you can begin to cultivate a more modest lifestyle.
- As women striving to live virtuous lives, it’s important that our actions reflect the Holy Spirit. One way to do this is by actively looking for opportunities to serve those around us. ( Prov 31:20 ) For example, we can show up early for events to help with setup or offer to bring refreshments. The key is to be intentional with our actions. Controlling our reactions in tough situations and showing kindness are also important. ( Prov 25:28 ) We can practice self-control by taking a step back and assessing the situation instead of getting angry. Acts of kindness can be as simple as encouraging someone, giving advice, or expressing appreciation without expecting anything in return. ( Matt 5:16 ) These are all ways we can live virtuously and reflect the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.
- The ultimate goal of leading a virtuous life is to find something that brings you joy and fulfillment. It’s like hitting the jackpot when you discover your purpose in life! But, the key to finding it wont be in the world, but in your service to God. ( Colo 3:1-3 ) When you make changes in your life to align with God’s will, you can better understand what talents and gifts He has given you. ( 1 Cor 7:20 ) This will allow you to identify what you are passionate about and how you can use your strengths to serve and uplift others for the glory of God. ( 1 Cor 7:32 )
Ultimately becoming a virtuous woman is a lifelong commitment and journey to love and live a life that is pleasing to God. So with that, grab those bibles and start reading and applying the word of God to your life, be intentional about serving him and start cultivating that relationship. Remember being virtuous is striving for the Kingdom of God not the approval of the world. It won’t be easy but if we apply these principles to our everyday lives it will become second nature.
